Heifers treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus showed significant improvements in body weight gain. |
|
Studies evaluating the weight gain of replacement dairy heifers treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus were conducted at five sites in Canada and the United States: British Columbia, Maine, Ontario, Quebec, and Wisconsin. The trial animals included Holstein and Jersey heifers. The grazing period in the trials ranged from 139 to 175 days, and cattle were weighed every 14 or 28 days. In each trial, animals were matched by body weight and allocated between two treatment groups:
- Group 1 was treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus on Day 0
- Group 2 was left untreated as the Control group
The treatment groups in these studies grazed separate pastures and results were combined for a single analysis. Over the entire grazing season, the heifers treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus gained significantly more weight (14.5 kg; 14%; P <0.05) and had significantly (P <0.01) higher ave rage daily gain (90 g/day) than the Controls. In all five studies, heifers treated with IVOMEC SR Bolus gained more weight than untreated animals.
