Dairy Heifers United Kingdom

Dairy cows treated with IVOMEC 1% Injection showed significantly improved milk production, and had a shorter calving-to-conception interval.
United Kingdom

Twenty-four heifer calves were matched by weight and allocated among three treatment groups:

  • Group 1 was left untreated as the Control group
  • Group 2 was vaccinated against lungworm prior to turnout
  • Group 3 was treated with IVOMEC 1% Injection at 3, 8, and 13 weeks after turnout

Cattle in Groups 1 and 2 were treated for parasitic disease during the first grazing season, whereas cattle in Group 3 (treated with IVOMEC) remained healthy. In the autumn of that year, heifers were housed together until the following spring. Those treated with IVOMEC and those in Group 2 (vaccinated animals) were turned out together throughout the second season. No antiparasitic treatments were administered during the second grazing season. The body weight gain advantage achieved by the heifers treated with IVOMEC during the first year was maintained through the end of the second grazing season.

Jacobs et al, 1989, Vet. Parasitol. 34:45-56

Heifers were turned out on Day 0, housed in the autumn and turned out the foll owing spring. The benefits of treatment with IVOMEC are shown in higher body weights right through to the end of the second grazing season.
