Beef Heifers New Zealand

Calves treated with IVOMEC Pour-On showed improved weight gain and improved profitability.
New Zealand

Four separate trials were undertaken in four geographic regions of New Zealand to assess the benefits of different programmes of treatment with IVOMEC Pour-On. The heavy parasite challenge in these regions demands repeated antiparasitic treatments and shorter treatment intervals.
Regardless of product used, failure to provide effective control inevitably leads to parasite challenge increasing to unacceptable levels. A total of 483 beef heifers were matched by weight and allocated among three treatment groups:

  • Group 1 was treated once with IVOMEC Pour-On (Control)
  • Group 2 was treated four times with IVOMEC Pour-On
  • Group 3 was treated six times with IVOMEC Pour-On

Treatments were administered every 6 weeks, starting at weaning in the autumn and continuing into early or late summer. At the end of each trial, an estimate of the value of each group was made by an independent expert who was blinded to the treatment programme that each heifer had received.
