Beef cattle treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus performed significantly better at grazing and through the feedlot to slaughter.

Mississippi/Texas: 180 beef cattle were matched by weight and allocated among three groups:

  • Group 1 was left untreated for parasites on Day 0 and treated with fenthion at entry to the feedlot (Control)
  • Group 2 was treated with a benzimidazole orally once on Day 0 and once orally on entry to the feedlot
  • Group 3 was treated once with the IVOMEC SR Bolus on Day 0

The cattle were grazed separately by treatment groups for 125 days, with six replicated pastures per treatment. The cattle were maintained in the same groups after entry into the feedlot on Day 127. Cattle treated with the IVOMEC SR Bolus weighed significantly more at Days 125 and 294 and had significantly higher average daily gain than did the untreated/fenthion-treated Controls and the benzimidazole-treated cattle (P<0.05). Carcass weight of each medicated group was significantly heavier than that of the Controls and the carcass weight of the IVOMEC SR Bolus group was significantly heavier than that of the benzimidazole group.

The study demonstrated that the benefits of parasite control with the IVOMEC SR Bolus in beef calves are maintained throughout the grazing period, beyond entry to the feedlot, and to the point of slaughter.

Fluke-infected cattle treated with IVOMEC Super at entry to the feedlot showed significant productivity improvements.
Missouri/Texas: 120 steers from fluke-free areas were selected for body weight uniformity. Sixty of the steers were then naturally infected with liver fluke at the start of the trial, and 60 remained fluke-free. Cattle were weighed regularly throughout the 68-day grazing period of the study, after which the 60 fluke-infected cattle were moved to acclimate them to the feedlot phase. Before being placed into computerized feeding stations, the cattle were matched by body weight and randomly allocated between two treatment groups:

  • Group 1 was treated with IVOMEC Super
  • Group 2 was treated with IVOMEC 1% Injection
